Vivid language keeps the scare-factor high, as Blankenship-Kramer sculpts terrifying imagery of rotting flesh barely clinging to decomposed skeletal remains, but readers also see moments of emotional growth throughout, as Evey attends therapy sessions to address her feelings of anger and mistrust.
